· Inconel 625 (UNS N06625): Belongs to the nickel-chromium-molybdenum family with added niobium (Nb). This gives it high strength in the annealed condition, with tensile strengths ranging from 827 to 1034 MPa. It excels particularly at resisting pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking caused by chloride ions, offers excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, and is widely used in seawater and aerospace applications. However, it carries a risk of localized corrosion under specific operating conditions.
· Hastelloy C-276 (UNS N10276): Part of the nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten family, renowned for its extremely low carbon and silicon content. Dubbed the 'universal corrosion-resistant alloy,' its standout feature is exceptional resistance to both oxidizing and reducing media. It withstands strongly corrosive substances such as wet chlorine gas, hypochlorites, and ferric chloride, and performs exceptionally well in non-oxidizing acids like hydrochloric and sulfuric acid. A notable exception: While it resists localized corrosion, in certain flue gas desulfurization environments, its uniform corrosion rate may be higher than that of Inconel 625.
Both alloys have similar densities (approximately 8.44 g/cm³ for 625 and 8.89 g/cm³ for C-276) and melting points above 1300°C.
