Product Description
Detailed Specifications & Features

These are all members of the 304 alloy family, with their core differences lying in carbon content and operating temperature. To summarize in one sentence: 30408 is the standard grade, 30403 is the low-carbon grade (resistant to welding corrosion), and 30409 and 304H are high-temperature grades (with different heat resistance strengths). They comply with the Chinese standard GB/T 24511 (or ASTM standards). A comparison of their specific properties and applications is as follows: • 30408 (06Cr19Ni10 / standard 304): Carbon content ≤ 0.08%, with the strongest versatility. It offers balanced corrosion resistance and processability but lacks high-temperature strength; long-term service is recommended below 400℃. Widely used in food equipment, atmospheric pressure vessels, architectural decoration, and other general applications. • 30403 (022Cr19Ni10 / 304L): Carbon content ≤ 0.030%, requiring no post-weld heat treatment and providing the strongest resistance to intergranular corrosion. However, its strength is slightly lower than that of 30408. Specially designed for welded components, thin-walled storage tanks, chemical pipelines, and other equipment sensitive to welding corrosion. • 30409 (06Cr19Ni10 / 304H): Carbon content 0.04%~0.10% (higher than standard 304), with higher high-temperature creep strength than 30408 and an operating temperature up to 800℃. Mainly used for high-temperature pressure-bearing components such as boiler superheaters and heat exchanger tubes. • 304H (S30409 / ASTM high-carbon grade): Basically equivalent to 30409 (under ASTM standards), emphasizing higher high-temperature yield strength and outperforming 30409 in the 500~800℃ temperature range. Its application scenarios overlap with those of 30409, but it is commonly used for export equipment or designs following American standards.    💡 How to Choose? • Ordinary room-temperature applications with no welding involved → 30408, offering the best cost performance. • Equipment with numerous welds and no possibility of post-weld heat treatment → 30403, with intergranular corrosion resistance as the key requirement. • Long-term service temperature >500℃ with pressure loading → 30409 or 304H (selected per design standard); standard 304 will rapidly soften and fail at such temperatures.  ⚠️ Key Notes • Due to their high carbon content, 30409/304H require preheating (150~200℃) during welding, and solution treatment is recommended after welding; otherwise, weld corrosion resistance will deteriorate. • 30403 has lower strength than 30408, so allowable stress shall be reduced in accordance with standards for pressure-bearing design.
